Under the Family Law Act, if your child has been unlawfully taken away from you, you can apply for a Recovery Order. A Recovery Order is an Order of the Court that can require a child (or children) be returned to you.

A Recovery Order can authorise a person, such as police officers, to take suitable steps to find, recover or bring a child back to you. It can also provide directions about the daily care arrangements of the child until the child is returned to your care.

For your ease, it can also forbid the person who took the child from again removing or taking possession of the child.
